Palvo walked on the dusty streets of what seemed to be an abandoned ghost town, it was quiet. "I need to find an opponent.. thought I don't want to hurt anyone.. What do I do?" Palvo questioned himself. He had to do it. though, so he could be alive again. Palvo climbed some trashcans and managed to climb on a roof of a house-like building. Maybe he could strike from above and without having to see the bloody remains... but still, Palvo didn't like this at all. He sat down, wondering what he should do. Suddenly, he heard someone approach. He gave a small gasp and quickly got up. The figure was a woman with medium long, light brown hair which had goggles tied around her head. She was wearing a leather-looking jacket and black pants with a strange gadget around the left leg. She had a metal plate around where her left eye should be and wore gray gloves. Her nails seemed small and sharp, and she also had a long black tail. "Uh, wot are you doin' up 'ere, kid?" she asked. Was this a competitor? "Uhh... w-well, I was looking for competitors.. so I wanted to look up here.." Palvo replied, uneasy about the figure "A-Are you a competitor?" If she would want to defeat me, maybe I can defeat her quickly, Palvo thought. "I want to be alive again..." he muttered. "Yes, I am part of 'dis tournament." the woman replied. There's her answer, Palvo thought. "Then.. I guess we should battle." he finally said after a moment. "Hey whoa whoa whoa, hold' on a bloody minute!" the woman said, waving her arms frantically. For a grown girl, she seemed excitable. She continued, "Before we start 'dis battle, why not giving me your name? It'll kill me if I didn't know." Palvo gave a puzzled look. "B-But aren't you already dead?" he asked. "Oi, figure 'o speech, boy." the woman replied with a sigh. Palvo's face grew red with embarrassment, though it was behind his mask, and looked down. "I-I'm Palvo.." he stuttered. The woman smiled. "Nice to meet you, Palvo, I'm Charoilet." Now, now was the chance, he thought. Palvo gathered brute courage and charged at Charoilet, throwing a punch. Charoilet gave a surprised eep and blocked the punch. "Oi.. right to fightin', are we?" Charoilet sighed. "I-It's a tournament, right? It's meant for fighting.." Palvo replied. Charoilet jumped back and showed her claws. "Fine, have it your way." she said. Charoilet charged at Palvo and slashed her black claws, though Palvo dodged. He tried to punch an uppercut, but was blocked again by her. The battle consisted in punches, kicks, slashes, and uppercuts. Most were blocked, some caused little damage. Both were tempted to fight, for the sake to live again. Charoilet slashed again, with Palvo dodging and managing to punch her in the gut. Charoilet skidded across the ground in small hops and came to a stop, coughing. "I want to be alive... I want to be alive..." Palvo repeated each time. For some reason, that was the only thing on his mind and was dragging it as his lifetime objective. Something glistened at the corner of Palvo's left eye, though to his right direction. It seemed to be a metal disabled pipe, which could work for each time Chariolet slashes. He walked over and picked up the pipe, then trailed over to the woman. Her green eye looked up weakly into Palvo's, right into his undead soul. He slowly lifted the pipe, shaking. Even though he was dead, a sense of guilt lingered through him. "I-I hope you don't hate me for this.. I-I'm so sorry, but..." his sentence trailed off as he brought down the pipe with all the slight strength he could. Chariolet quickly got up and slashed at Palvo, blood following in a crimson trail with her stained claws. Palvo felt pain surge with the tearing feeling of his burnt flesh, though didn't make a sound. He fell to his knees, his sight growing faint. He didn't think it was possible for the dead to faint, or even feel pain. Chariolet wiped a small tear from her eye and walked over, clming him with her voice. "Okay, let's get you outta 'ere, before some bugger desides to eat you.. oi, or worse."
--
Everything was black, darkness black. Palvo heard familiar voices... his parents, his family, his friends; all swirling around him in a confusing mixture. He saw a light up ahead, illuminating his path. Is... this the way out...? Ma..? Pa..? Palvo called out as he came closer. The light blinded and awakened him back to reality. "W..What happened..?" Palvo moaned, then looked up at the familiar woman, Chariolet. What was she doing here, he thought. "You lost the round, boy." she said "I'm sorry 'bout that, .... I really wanted to let you win, but-..." Palvo slowly sat up. "Y-You wanted to be alive as much as I did,... didn't you ma'am?" he asked, now feeling guilty. ".. Y-Yeah." Chariolet replied. Palvo looked to his torso, which was carefully wrapped in bandages. "What.." Palvo began "Did you...?-" "'Yeah, oi did help ya." Charoilet interrupted "Even though oi am a pirate who would fight and do anything to be alive again... Oi would nev'ah leave a helpless kid out to rot in 'da sun." "I-I'm not that helpless.." Palvo said, giving a small grunt of embarrassment. Chariolet laughed. "Well, seein' your skills, you don't seem so helpless, r'oight." she complimented. There was a moment of silence.
"..How did you die, ma'am?" Palvo suddenly asked. "Well," she began "my cap'tain shot me.." Chariolet opened her jacket to show an area near the collar-bone on the left side. There was a small hole with blood stains around the area. "Oi possibly just made the bloke mad or some'fing.. or 'e was bloody drunk...again." Chariolet muttered. For some reason, the two seemed to chuckle about the drunken captain. "Sooooo, how'd you die, gov'?" she asked. Palvo's chuckle faded, then he looked down. "Oi, if you don't want to talk 'bout it, 'den that's f'oine wif' me." Charoilet said "Oi was just.. curious. I mean, who'd want't kill a li'l boy like you? Really, when you're not fightin', you're a nice gov'..." Palvo was still quiet, making Chariolet sigh with regret. "Sorry, gov'nah.." she said quietly. "I-It's ok.." Palvo suddenly replied "I didn't die because of murder... I-I died because..." Palvo sighed, the continued. "One of my father's factories broke down, causing the sulfuric acid to leak into the river... I was in the river, swimming... I didn't realize until... I felt a burning sensation.. Next thing I knew, I woke up by the shore with my clothing and this strange necklace on... it has acid in it, but I don't know what for.... After walking for a while, this little robotic contraption appeared and told me I was dead... it told me to come here to the Afterlife Tournament... and... I guess then I met you." The thoughts of his family and friends came to his, oh how he missed them so much.. Chariolet looked to the ground. "Oh.." she said "oi,...'den life seems more unfair 'den I thought." Palvo snapped out of his thoughts. "W-What? I-I didn't hear that, I'm sorry." Palvo stuttered. "Oi, it's fine. I was just talkin' to myself, gov'.." she looked back at him "What're you gonna do since you lost?" "I-I don't know... I-I guess I'll be stuck here..." Palvo said, then looked up to the sky "Though, I r-really want to go home... back to my old life with my dear Ma and Pa... I-I don't want to be here anymore, I want to make sure they're ok.." Ma and Pa.... that's all Palvo wanted to see in his life, along with his relatives and friends. Chariolet suddenly coughed, meant to get his attention. "Tell you wot, kid. Either a young gov' like you wins or loses, I'll help ya get your life back, no matter wot." she said. Palvo looked back to her with surprise. "Y-You really mean that?" Palvo asked, shocked. "Ya bet, gov'nah." she said, flashing a smile that seems to suit her "It's a promise." Palvo felt a surge of gratitude within him. Palvo didn't know why or even what made him decide, but he knew that he wanted to tag along with her. Palvo walked up and suddenly gave Chariolet a hug. "Th-Thank you.. M'Ma'am Chariolet.." he hiccuped in small sobs. Chariolet smiled and stroked his head in a motherly way. "Oi, no problem." she said, smiling sweetly.
